Matthew Chapter 5: 1-3

And seeing the multitudes He went up onto a mountain and having sat down, His disciples came to Him. Jesus began teaching them, "Blessed are the poor in Spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of Heaven."
Note ~ One would think this should read, 'Blessed are the rich in Spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of Heaven', for God is a Spirit, and Heaven is a world for Spiritual children. However, many Christians interpret this to mean, 'Blessed are the humble in Spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of Heaven.' For in the presence of the Divine Loving Creator, we will all indeed be humbled, for He is pure Divine Love and the source of our True life. So Jesus could mean, those who have this deep awe and humble, heart-felt gratitude now, towards the Divine Creator, have prepared correctly to be in His presence, after passing through their death experience of the body.
Perhaps the original saying may have been simpler to understand. Over time it may have lost some of the structure of the original saying and meaning. Perhaps it originally read as, 'Blessed are the poor, for in Spirit, theirs is the kingdom of Heaven.'
Jesus ministered the Divine Love of the Creator, equally to the materially rich and to those in material poverty. Clearly, the material poor had to struggle to survive on Earth, with meagre belongings, the same as today. It would be reasonable to conclude, that He was lifting up the Spirits of the poor by giving them hope. Hope for a future life of joy and prosperity in the Heavenly Spiritual world, where all struggles and sufferings will end. He was comforting them, by saying, God does not care about your your material wealth, but rather the richness of your Spiritual life and Soul. And they had as much ability to achieve this Spiritual richness and live out of it, as the wealthy.
In fact, Jesus often warned the materially wealthy, that they would find it difficult to enter Heaven, because of their attachment to material possessions. But the poor had little or none to be attached to, so in that way, they were blessed. ~
